THE MARK KIRBY HALL
The Mark Kirby Hall stands on ground endowed by Nicolas de Luda in 1712. The current building is of later date but is Grade 2 listed. It has a beautiful setting, adjacent to the peaceful and extensive churchyard, graced with many exceptional trees. The hall’s south-facing windows look out over a very pretty walled garden. The Mark Kirby Hall is a hidden gem, quiet and attractive, yet very close to the village centre and all amenities, just two minutes from Cottingham Green where buses stop and five minutes from the train station, all easy walking on level ground. There is a large, free car park beside the Co-op supermarket two minutes away.
The Mark Kirby Hall is centrally heated, with an additional gas fire for focus and atmosphere, and has its own toilet which is fitted with a grab rail.
The integral kitchen, suitable for the provision of light refreshments, is equipped with a gas cooker, a microwave and an 8-litre water boiling urn. Cups and saucers, tea spoons etc are provided.
The hall has been recently restored and renovated in a co-ordinating scheme to do justice to its history and its setting. The wainscoting has been painted a quiet Georgian green, the room re-papered and repainted throughout. The fine gothic windows on the south side were remade by a firm of heritage joiners and the toilet and cloakroom windows replaced. The original church pews providing seating on three sides have new upholstery and the folding chairs giving flexible seating around the 7 circular tables have new co-ordinating cushions. The Victorian-style ceiling and wall lights have been retained. The curtains enable the room to be blacked out for slides etc.
Please note: The hall is used every morning, Monday to Saturday, as the Church Coffee Shop, serving tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits but is available for hire afternoons and evenings. It will seat about 30 around the tables in ‘teashop’ layout and more if the bench seating is used.
PRICE: £10 per hour - minimum hire period 2 hours.
