My Pause for Thought for 15th September.
People often say I’ll be so glad when all this is over. I’ve said it myself. Some things in life are never over – other things just seem endless! One thing that never really comes to an end is grief.
When someone we love dies, people are sympathetic. But as time goes on, we may still be feeling very raw, or angry, or lonely, or simply sad, and it goes on and on. Even if we feel better sometimes, our grief is still there.
Eventually it becomes part of who we are. We don’t get over it. Instead we learn to live with it. Sometimes it’s in the background. Sometimes it’s just as fresh as ever. Psalm 23 speaks of God walking beside us through the shadows – not magically making it better, but being with us in the darkness. If that is you, this morning, may you know that rock-like presence beside you as you journey on.
