‘How shall I sing that majesty, which angels do admire?’ Last Sunday morning this was our first hymn – one of my (many) favourites. It struck me that it’s about a year since we returned to singing in church, and I remember well how joyful we felt when we could sing again. There’s something about singing which deepens and enlivens our worship, and I know many of us (even the non-singers!) felt the loss when we couldn’t do it.
I wonder what else helps you to worship? How do you come close to God? On Monday evenings a group of us meet for silent prayer, and that is a very special time too. The quiet waiting on God that we do together is meditative – listening for God in the silence. Perhaps you find God in the words of the Bible. Perhaps you come closest to God in the sacrament of communion. Perhaps you meet God praying in church, perhaps you meet God outside.
I often look at patches of sunlight on the floor or a wall, and remember words from Psalm 36, ‘by your light do we see light’. The light patterns remind me that God is here, in this place, at this time. I’d love to know what helps you to worship, and where or when you feel close to God.
with my prayers and blessings, Nicola
