We are nearly at the end of Eastertide. Yesterday was Ascension Day, when we celebrate Jesus leaving the disciples to return to the Father. He tells them to return to Jerusalem from the hill he’s taken them to, and to wait there. They return – rejoicing in the task he’s given them — and wait. We’ll mark the end of their waiting on Sunday 19th, at Pentecost, when we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit.( We’ll also be having our annual meeting!)
The nine days between are traditionally kept as a time of prayer — a time when we pray, ’thy kingdom come’. There are some Thy Kingdom Come prayer diaries at the back of the church, and from Saturday there will be a prayer board, with an invitation to add your own prayer requests to it. These could be for someone (please use first name only, or initials — God will know who they are), or for something else close to your heart. I will commit to spending some time each day praying through all the requests, and I encourage everyone else to when they come into church.
