This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, an end and a beginning. It marks the end of ’seasonal time’ – that half of the church’s year where we re-tell and re-live the story of salvation. That half of the year begins with Advent Sunday and moves through Christmas and Epiphany, through the testing of Lent and the journey to the Cross, the great joy of Easter, the Ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit. Trinity Sunday is the last great day of that time. But Trinity Sunday is also a beginning, the beginning of Ordinary Time, in which we work out how we are to live as citizens of heaven in our daily lives, and how we as a church live out the Gospel.
This year, this Trinity Sunday, we will have a special celebration. We will admit Margaret, our Churchwarden elected at last week’s APCM, to her office. We’ll also commission the Assistant Churchwardens and our new PCC to their roles. And we will also commission all those who play a part at St Mary’s — vergers, welcomers, sacristans, musicians, and many others. These are all vital roles and it will be a very special way to celebrate that they are undertaken for the whole church — and there will be some sparkles afterwards to celebrate!
