This week I did a short Pause for Thought on Kofi Smiles’s breakfast show on Radio Humberside. Here is what I said.
One of things I love about being the Rector of St Mary’s is being with people at the beginning and ends of life.
I love doing christenings. In baptism, we become not just members of our own family, but also beloved children of God, and join God’s family, so christenings really are a huge family celebration! It’s the beginning of an amazing story.
At the other end of life, it’s always a great honour to take someone’s funeral. At a funeral, family and friends gather to tell the story of a person’s life, and to say goodbye; at the end I commend them into God’s loving care. The story of our life goes on, into eternity.
I wonder where you are in your story today? Maybe you are looking backwards, remembering the beginnings of your story. Maybe you are looking forwards to things that are to come. Wherever you are, in the ups and downs of life, I hope you will know that you too are loved and cherished by God.
