Over the last few days I’ve been planting spring bulbs in my garden. That’s such a hopeful autumn job. As I planted, I could look past the winter to come, and to the spring, when – if all goes well – they bulbs will come up and flower. In my mind’s eye, where now there are just patches of disturbed earth among the ivy and dead leaves, I see the garden transformed by anemones, fritillaries and daffodils.
Last week at the PCC we had a great conversation about signs of life and dreams for the future, and we came up with all sorts of ideas. Some were small, some huge; some were things we could do now, some were much more long term. Some might not take root, others may blossom and bear fruit. It was very good to spend time sharing the things that we are finding encouraging and hopeful. And good to think about more seeds to plant for the future! I hope this is something the PCC will do again from time to time.
But I’d also like to hear from people who aren’t on the PCC about your ideas. What are you encouraged by? What gives you hope? What ideas do you have – small or large, practical or impractical? I’d love to hear them.
With my prayers and blessings, Nicola
