In the last couple of weeks I’ve been visiting Cottingham’s schools, meeting the head teachers and asking how what we as a church can do for them. I’ve been very warmly welcomed and one of the first fruits of those conversations is that Hallgate School will be coming to St Mary’s next week for their Harvest service. There are more plans in the offing, and this is a really welcome sign of new things to come. Everyone I’ve spoken to has said how hard things have been for schools during the pandemic, and how hard they continue to be, with high levels of student and staff absence. One of the things we can do – a most important thing – is to pray for schools, for teachers and students and parents. Can I ask you to keep Cottingham’s schools in your prayers in the weeks to come?
Speaking of education, the Bible study group met this week to talk about meeting again. I’m going to be planning a Bible study series on ‘Everything you always wanted to know about the Bible but were afraid to ask’, and this will be happening during the day as well as in the evening, and on Skype (for those in the group who already use this), on Zoom and in person. We’ll also be starting on a series of ‘Brush up your confirmation’ classes. Watch this space for more details!
with my prayers and blessings, Nicola
