Advent Carol Service
Our Advent Carol Service is the perfect end a busy day at Cottingham Christmas Festival. This beautiful and atmospheric service starts in darkness, lit just by candles, a sequence of powerful readings and wonderful music. Come and immerse yourself in beauty — a balm for the soul.
Sunday 14th December at 4pm
Family Carols
We retell the Nativity story together with well-loved carols. Come dressed up as an shepherd, an angel or a king — or perhaps you’d like to play Mary or Joseph in our Nativity. We’ll have costumes to borrow on the door too.
Sunday 21st December at 6.30pm
Service of Nine Lessons and Carols
The traditional service of readings, music from the choir and carols for all. Mulled wine will be served after the service.
Christmas Eve at 4pm
Crib Service
Christmas starts here! Enter the wonder and mystery of Christmas as we tell the story and make our crib. As the figures are placed into the crib we will sing traditional Christmas carols. When everyone has arrived – including the Christ child – we will gather round and bless the crib.
Christmas Eve at 11pm
Midnight Communion
Christmas begins with the first Eucharist of Christmas – sometimes known as Midnight Mass.
This is a traditional service with carols, readings and communion. Incense will be used at this service.
Christmas Day at 8am
Holy Communion (BCP)
For those who like a quiet start to Christmas Day, a traditional prayer book communion service.
